Our Lady's Chapel: 1953

The unofficial beginning of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish came in 1953 when it achieved Mission status. It was then that Father Peter Altman, Assistant Pastor of St. Philip Neri, mentioned to Mrs. Regina Brunswick that a suitable building was needed for year-round celebration of Mass in Centerport. Mrs. Brunswick, a staunch parishioner, responded generously with the gift of a large boat garage built in the 1920's, and conveniently located at Mill Dam and Prospect Roads in Centerport.
