Parish Social Ministry

Parish Outreach: Provides support and service, including food, clothing and financial assistance to anyone in need within our parish boundaries.  All Volunteers are trained to ministry compassionately and with confidentiality. Marylyn Borghard parishoutreach@olqmparish.org
     
Bag Sunday: Each November, grocery bags are distributed after all Masses.  They are returned the following Sunday, filled with items that cannot be purchases with food stamps.  The Society of St. Vincent de Paul then distributes them during the Christmas Food Drive to families in our own parish, as well as to families in neighboring parishes. Bereavement:  Stands with and supports our brothers and sisters at a time when they are experiencing the pain of the loss of a loved one. Helen Larkin  
     
Counselors:  Professional counselors will give a free, initial visit and then charge on a sliding scale.  there is also help for people who have no insurance, through the Patricia M. Koenig Counseling Ministry.    
     
Elizabeth Ministry:  Women who are willing to share their presence, stores, and experiences in the hope that these will support, encourage, console, and, at time, bring healing to another woman.  Elizabeth Ministers are matched with women to visit according to their areas of expertise.    
     
Employment Network:  Established, non-sectarian guidance program for anyone seeking employment:  the recently terminated, first time job hunters and/or returnees. Frank LaBarbara  
     
Eucharistic Ministers for the Homebound:  Bring the Grace of God through the Holy Eucharist to the hospitalized and the homebound, while giving those who receive Jesus a continued connection to the Community. Dolores Bishop  
     
Fundraising:  Various opportunities are offered, like the Parish Christmas Concert and the Bay Equipment and Toy Sale.  To volunteer, call... Beth Cotter  
     
HIHI (Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative):  Alternate Sunday evenings, November through March, volunteers from Centerport United Methodist Church, the Congregational Church of Huntington, St. Patrick's and OLQM provide shelter for the homeless in our Community Room. Tim Pillion  
     
Intercessory Prayer:  Matches the family of the newly baptized with an established family in the parish.  The two families intercede for one another through prayer.    
     
Justice and Peace, Public Policy Education Network: Dedicated to implementing Catholic Social Teaching that calls us to find a place at the table for all God's children. Shelia Croke  
     
Ministry of Consolation:  Helps in planning the funeral rites and the Mass of Christian Burial.  Acts as companions to the family and the faith community in grieving the departed.  Continues to keep in contact with the family with bereavement support groups, memorial Masses and All Souls Day Mass. Ministry of Loving Hands:  Prayer blankets made by fellow parishioners and blessed by our parish priests to give comfort and peace while going through the healing process. Jeanine Ayres  
     
Moving On:  A self-help group for those who are separated, divorced, or windowed, to assist in moving through the end of the marriage an on to a happy, fulfilled life as a single person. Lois Greaux  
     
Pat Koenig Estate Foundation:  Committee reviews proposals and makes financial grants for women's counseling and other parish and community programs that assist people in need. Joseph Siniscalchi  
     
Transportation: Volunteer drivers provide transportation for those in need of rides to medical appointments and local-area services. Jean Schneider  
     
Volunteer Lawyers Initiative:  We will recommend willing lawyers who provide legal advice and/or services to individuals.   parishoutreach@olqmparish.org
