Centering
Prayer
Centering
is a method of prayer in which we learn to approach God in the silence of our
hearts, putting aside the distractions of life and experiencing inner peace. It is done privately most of the time. However, a weekly sharing of the experience in a small group
is very supportive. The Centering
Prayer Group of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs encourages each member on their inward
journey.
Eucharistic
Adoration
What
is Eucharistic Adoration? In the
Most Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist, the body and blood, together with the
soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is
truly, really and substantially present. In
his Eucharistic presence, He remains mysteriously in our midst as the one who
loved us and gave Himself up for us. Pope
John Paul II says: “The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic
worship. Jesus awaits us in this
sacrament of love. Let us not
refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith,
and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world.
Let our adoration never cease.” The
Holy Father spends at least one hour daily in Eucharistic adoration, which he
tells us is a fundamental duty in the life of a Christian.
“Our communal worship at Mass must go together with our personal
worship of Jesus in Eucharistic adoration in order that our love may be
complete.”
Time
Commitment: Jesus asked: “Could you not watch one hour with Me?”
Won’t you please consider devoting just one specific hour each Monday,
12:30 - 8:00 PM with Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament?
“He waits for you!”
Marian
Devotion
The
Marian Devotion, as the name implies, is strictly and solely spiritual in
nature, the purpose of which is to honor our Blessed
Lord publicly exposed for our adoration and veneration, and to honor our
Blessed Mother in a public way. Every
Monday evening, beginning at 7:15 PM with the Blessed Sacrament exposed on the
altar in the Daily Mass Chapel, prayers are said consisting of the Rosary, the
litany of our Blessed Mother, the Novena of the Miraculous Medal and other
prayers, including prayers for vocations to the priesthood.
The prayer evening is concluded with an act of adoration and consecration
to the Sacred Heart and a Benediction hymn as the Blessed Sacrament is restored
to the Tabernacle.
Small
Christian Communities
Small
Christian Communities at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs intend to provide a warm
home-based environment that facilitates a personal growth in faith, hope and
love of the Gospel message through prayer, scripture reading, faith sharing, and
Christian fellowship. SCC groups usually consist of 10 to 12 people of various
ages who meet on a regular basis. Some focus on 6 weeks during Advent and 6
weeks during Lent to read, discuss, and share scripture in a prayerful
environment. The group meets in a member’s home with a trained facilitator and
uses a self-directed workbook entitled “QUEST”. The meetings last
approximately 1 1/2 hours with the focus being the readings of the next Sunday’s
liturgy. Other groups use various spiritually focused books and materials and
meet monthly throughout the year. Questions are discussed which enable the group
to share themselves with applications to everyday life. Prior experience with
scripture is not needed. There is the understanding within the group that all
discussions are confidential to the group.
Time
Commitment: Varies by group.
Taize
Prayer
Taize
prayer is an evening of scripture reading, prayer and meditative chanting with
time for reflection and adoration of the Cross.
Time
Commitment: Once a month for approximately 1 hour.
