Msgr. John Gilmartin, the Pastor of St. Anne's Church in Garden City, was named to become the fifth pastor of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs on June 22nd 2011.

Dear Parishioners,

It is with joy in my heart that I come to serve as your pastor.  I also come with a very deep respect for Monsignor Bauhoff, whom I was with in our seminary years.  I am most sensitive to his situation and sad that he was not able to continue here at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs.  He is a wonderful person, a fine priest and very gifted in ministry.  My prayers, and I know yours, go with him.  I also come with admiration and respect for Monsignor Ryan.  His legacy is both here at the Parish and throughout the diocese.  I look for his advice and counsel in serving as your pastor.  He will be a wonderful resource to me and continues to be a presence to all of you.

I look forward to getting to know and work with the staff here.  It is my intention to listen to them, support the great work they do and be open to their suggestions and guidance as I join them in ministry here at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs.

I must say I come with a bit of anxiousness, after twelve years in Saint Anne’s.  After developing relationships over those years, I now start the process over again.  I am new to you and as you’re wondering, ‘What is he like?’ and ‘What is he going to do here?’  I guess I have similar questions for you.  I look forward to developing our relationship, which I believe is the essence of ministry, and we will answer the questions together.

As we come to know each other, so too will we come to know Jesus as we break the bread and share the cup.  May the Eucharist unite us.  I pray I will serve you faithfully and with love as your pastor.  Please feel free to contact me as I hope I can do with you.

With deep respect,

Father John
